The U.S. Lighthouse Society - The Keeper's Log
The Thread That Binds the Society
The Keeper's Log, a 48-page, glossy quarterly is the thread that binds the Society. The first section is historical in nature, featuring a famous American lighthouse as the cover story, followed by a human-interest article and, often, a foreign lighthouse story.
Other subjects explored in this section are related aids-to-navigation (history of lightships, fog signals, etc.) and a technical section called Clockworks. Some issues also feature Pages from the Past (excerpts from actual light keeper's logs), and articles reprinted from the U.S. Lighthouse Service Bulletins, published monthly from 1912-1939.
The second section, Notice to Keepers, is contemporary, telling about current events in our five Districts (New England, North Atlantic, South Atlantic & Gulf Coast, Great Lakes and West Coast). In this section you'll find information about newly restored light stations, those open to the public, groups looking for caretakers for their light stations, and even the occasional lighthouse for sale. Also featured in the second section of The Keeper's Log are book and video reviews, foreign affairs, letters to the head keeper, poetry and a few, select ads featuring lighthouse merchandise for sale. The entire Keeper's Log is laced with historic and contemporary photographs.
